On the first wine of Christmas my true love gave to me…Cabernet Sauvignon “Three Saints”, Dierberg, Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara, CA, 2014 for only $16.95
MICHAEL KLAUBER: 88 Points
“This warm, dry vintage also promoted an increase in tannin and color concentration. They sought to balance the extra structure with cooler ferments and shorter macerations to deliver a more open, approachable Cabernet Sauvignon.”
On the second wine of Christmas my true love gave to me…Cotes du Rhone, Saint-Cosme, Rhone Valley, FR, 2016 for only $12.95!
WINE ADVOCATE: 89 Points
“Saint Cosme’s 2016 Cotes du Rhone looked good on my recent visit. It’s mostly Syrah, blended from vineyards in Vinsobres and the Gard, offering lovely floral and peppery aromas, dark fruits, medium to full body and a softly dusty finish. It should drink well for 6 years.”
On the third wine of Christmas my true love gave to me…Chardonnay “LVE: Legend Vineyard Exclusive”, Raymond Vineyards, Napa Valley, CA, 2014 for only $42.95!
WINE SPECTATOR: 88 Points
“Smoky, toasty, buttery oak is the dominant theme here, casting a weighty presence relative to the understated green apple and citrus fruit. Time should even things out. Drink now through 2019.”
On the fourth wine of Christmas my true love gave to me…Champagne “Belle Epoque”, Perrier-Jouet, FR, 2008 for only $144.95!
WINE SPECTATOR: 94 Points
“This finely knit and lithe Champagne is smoky up front, opening into a lovely range of pastry, glazed apricot, lemon curd and candied ginger notes in the glass. Vibrant acidity drives the satinlike finish. Drink now through 2030.”
On the fifth wine of Christmas my true love gave to me…Champagne “La Grande Dame”, Veuve Cliquot, FR, 2006 for only $127.95!
WINE SPECTATOR: 94 Points
“A waft of spring blossom draws you into this elegant Champagne, whose subtle notes of poached quince, toasted brioche and mandarin orange gracefully ride the satiny mousse, supported by a vibrant backbone of acidity. Disgorged February 2016. Drink now through 2029.”
On the sixth wine of Christmas my true love gave to me…Red Blend “The Chocolate Block”, Boekenhoutskloof, Swartland, ZA, 2015 for only $29.95!
WINE ADVOCATE: 88 Points
“The 2015 Chocolate Block is a blend of 71% Syrah, 15% Grenache, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cinsault and 1% Viognier. Previous vintages have been Western Cape, this being the first W.O. to be Swartland. It has an attractive blackberry, cedar and dark chocolate scented bouquet, strangely the Cabernet Sauvignon making a big impression upon the Syrah. The palate is medium-bodied and quite austere compared for this label.”
On the seventh wine of Christmas my true love gave to me…Sparkling “Bliss Demi Sec”, Graham Beck, Western Cape, ZA, NV for only $16.95!
WINE ADVOCATE: 89 Points
“The Non-Vintage Bliss Demi Sec has a reduced but quite compelling bouquet. As its name implies this bubbly is guaranteed to instill feelings of unadulterated bliss in all of those fortunate to taste this fabulous fizz. A deeply satisfying experience from the first sublime sip to the last tantalizing tingle.”
On the eighth wine of Christmas my true love gave to me…Chateau La Fleur de Boüard, Lalande de Pomerol, FR, 2005 for only $59.95
WINE ADVOCATE: 93 Points
“A gorgeously dense ruby/purple-colored wine, the 2005 La Fleur de Boüard is a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged nearly 20 months in new oak. A big wine (14% alcohol), it is rich, concentrated, full-bodied and performs far above its official pedigree. It can be drunk over the next 10+ years.”
On the ninth wine of Christmas my true love gave to me…Château Ferrière, Margaux, FR, 2014 for only $38.95!
WINE ADVOCATE: 89 Points
“The 2014 Ferrière has a floral nose: wilted rose petals and a touch of Asian spice complementing the slightly muted black fruit. The palate is smooth and caressing on the entry with well-judged acidity. This will probably be one of the earlier-drinking 2014 Margaux, and it will give pleasure over the next ten years, possibly more.”
On the tenth wine of Christmas my true love gave to me…Chardonnay “Antica”, Antinori Family Estate, Napa Valley, CA, 2013 for only $27.95!
WINE ADVOCATE: 91 points
“Fresh apple blossom, green apple skin and citrus notes are present in the tart, minerally, naked 2013 Chardonnay that does a California imitation of a premier cru from Chablis. The long experience of the Antinori family making wines is reflected in this medium-bodied, stylish, well-made Chardonnay. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.”
On the eleventh wine of Christmas my true love gave to me…Bolgheri Rossa “Aska”, Banfi, Bolgheri & Tuscany, IT, 2014 for only $26.95!
WINE ENTHUSIAST: 89 Points
“A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, this opens with ripe dark berry and baking spice scents. The dense palate delivers black currant, tobacco and mocha flavors, fleshed out by round tannins. Drink through 2020.”
On the twelfth wine of Christmas my true love gave to me…White Blend “Ashbourne”, Hamilton Russell, Walker Bay, ZA, 2015 for only $16.95!
WINE SPECTATOR: 88 Points
“Lemon peel, star fruit and verbena notes stream through, backed by a light echo of yellow apple on the finish. Drink now.”
